ArtScape Jamestown

Leslie brought the ArtScape program to Jamestown in 2023 and has continued to coordinate the program annually.

The Jamestown Renaissance Corporation partners with Chautauqua Art Gallery, Pearl City Clay House, and the City of Jamestown Park’s Department to create an outdoor gallery in downtown Jamestown, N.Y. Artists of all ages are invited to participate in this juried art competition. Selected works are reproduced on banners that hang on light posts throughout the downtown area. Chautauqua Art Gallery and Pearl City Clay House in Jamestown support this program as the host sponsors, displaying the original works of art and coordinating artists and banner production.

Artscape is supported by business sponsors whose names appear on the banners and the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation, which provides funding and partnership in project planning.

Finding the Fawn

An AR Art Experiment

Artists Leslie Calimeri and John Stow began collaborating in 2021 to conceptualize and create an interactive outdoor art experience focused on play and exploration along the CHQ trail at Chautauqua Institution.

In the first phase of the project, Leslie designed a children’s play and exploration area and directional signage on the outdoor CHQ trail based on habitats of native birds and animals. Leslie created 60 sculptures of native birds to be dispersed along the trail to be discovered by children exploring the habitats.

Sculptor John Stow created and installed five large wooden animal sculptures and interactive elements within the habitats.

The second phase of their collaboration builds on their previous work and adds a new layer of interactivity. John created two new sculptures, a doe and her fawn, to accompany his previously created animal sculptures. Leslie digitized her artwork and brought it into an augmented reality space, allowing her sculptures to become animated and virtually interact with John's sculptures.
